Client Overview

The UK arm of an offshore private equity group with an investment portfolio worth £1 billion across multiple sectors.

Problem Statement

Following a period of rapid acquisition, the client needed a consistent and reliable way to assess both existing portfolio businesses and potential acquisitions.

They required an approach that could be deployed quickly without disrupting day-to-day operations — one that assessed both tangible controls and leadership effectiveness.

The key challenge was to introduce robust governance and assurance processes without creating unnecessary bureaucracy or slowing growth momentum.

Approach

Cross 8 deployed its proprietary Business Assurance Tool, a structured framework for evaluating organisational maturity across six core dimensions: People, Structure, Governance, Technology, Process, and Data.

The engagement began with a three-week assessment of the flagship business to baseline maturity, identify improvement opportunities, and define targeted enhancements.

The tool combined both quantitative and qualitative techniques:

– Quantitative review of tangible controls (policies, procedures, KPIs, Delegations of Authority, and process documentation).

– Qualitative review of leadership capability, decision-making clarity, and key-person dependencies through interviews and observation.

Findings were consolidated into a clear, actionable set of Business Maturity and Transformation Reports, supported by a Change Heatmap highlighting pressure points and sequencing priorities. A concise Plan on a Page presented the roadmap for delivery.
